IT.integro perspective on Microsoft’s product direction and the “AI-first business solution” approach

IT.integro shares a partner perspective on Microsoft’s product direction and the shift toward “AI-first business solutions.” We’ll translate Microsoft’s roadmap signals into practical implications for business apps: where Copilot and agents fit into real processes, what to prioritize first, and how to adopt AI securely and responsibly.

Takeaways

  • AI is becoming a standard layer of work, shifting focus from “features” to measurable business outcomes.
  • Roadmap awareness is a leadership skill – use Microsoft release waves to time priorities, investment, and change management.
  • “AI-first” is a transformation mindset, not a tech project: it changes how teams make decisions, collaborate, and execute processes.
  • Trust is the enabler of scale – responsible AI principles and governance determine whether AI can be deployed broadly with confidence.

Building AI agents: from use cases to governance, security, and responsible adoption

AI agents open up new ways to support users inside Business Central and connect the ERP with external AI services. The talk introduces what an AI agent is and outlines the main agent types applicable to Business Central, including internal agents operating in-system and external agents communicating via an MCP Server. A clear architecture breakdown follows, with particular focus on security and access control.
Two practical examples complete the picture – an internal agent for day-to-day user support and an external agent enabling integration with AI services.

Takeaways

  • A clear definition of an AI agent and the internal vs. external agent split in Business Central
  • How MCP Server fits into external agent communication with Business Central
  • Core architectural building blocks of an AI agent, presented as a simple model
  • Security and access-control considerations to treat as first-class design requirements
  • Two practical reference patterns: user assistance (internal) and AI-service integration (external)

Business Central Online in practice: key decisions, migration challenges, and outcomes from Dynamics NAV & On-Prem

In this session, we’ll present two real customer case studies of organizations that recently migrated from Dynamics NAV (on-premises) to Business Central Online. For each project, we’ll outline the company’s business context, the solution scope, and the key processes in use – then dive into the most important project decisions, including the approach to application conversion, process changes, and the overall data migration strategy.

We’ll walk through the end-to-end delivery journey: from analysis and development, through environment and migration preparation, to production go-live and post-launch support. Finally, we’ll share lessons learned from the first months of working in Business Central Online and the customers’ candid impressions after moving to the cloud – both from the user perspective and in terms of ongoing system operations and maintenance.

Takeaways

  • The key choice is “modernize vs. lift-and-shift” – it impacts scope, timeline, and long-term agility.
  • Extensions-first thinking reduces migration friction and sets you up for smoother future updates.
  • Data strategy is a business continuity decision: what to migrate, what to clean up, and how to cut over with minimal disruption.
  • Cloud operations change ownership and expectations – from upgrades and maintenance to governance and controlled access.
  • Early value shows up after go-live in process speed, reliability, and the ability to adopt new capabilities faster.

Performance

Keeping Business Central fast and reliable through telemetry, monitoring, and performance management

Performance optimization in Business Central works best as an ongoing discipline – not a one-time reaction to a crisis. This session shares practical experience from delivering the application performance optimization service in Business Central projects, structured in three parts: the service’s current state and how it operates, key lessons learned from delivery, and the direction of further development.

A core theme is prevention, especially during peak-load periods such as Black Friday. The session also explains why the scope expanded upstream into application design and build, and how that changed the way performance issues are addressed. Telemetry is covered not only as a source for performance analysis, but also for monitoring indicators such as SLO. The closing section outlines what’s next: dedicated customer dashboards for greater transparency, broader telemetry analytics, and wider use of AI to help users obtain direct answers to business questions without manual data analysis.

Takeaways

  • A clear picture of the service: what it is, how it works today, and its current status
  • Why prevention matters – especially during peak-load periods
  • What changes when performance work starts during design/build, not only after issues appear
  • How telemetry supports both performance analysis and SLO monitoring
  • Where the service is heading: customer dashboards, extended telemetry analytics, and AI-enabled business Q&A

What’s new in Licensing Policy and how to reduce ongoing costs

We’ll review the most important recent changes in Microsoft’s licensing policy and translate them into practical decisions for Business Central environments. We’ll focus on concrete ways to reduce the ongoing cost of running and supporting your solution – by selecting the right license types for real user roles and by improving operational discipline around Azure telemetry. You’ll also get a clear, actionable overview of how licensing applies to Microsoft Copilot and emerging AI agents that are quickly becoming part of everyday work with Business Central.

Takeaways

  • How to interpret licensing-policy updates for Business Central in practical terms
  • Methods to align license assignments with real usage and responsibilities
  • Principles of cost-aware Azure telemetry management (collection, retention, governance)
  • What to consider when planning Copilot and AI agent adoption from a licensing perspective

End-to-end data and analytics management with Power BI and Microsoft Fabric

Modern reporting isn’t just about great visuals – it’s about a well-designed, end-to-end way of working with data. We’ll show how to build a sustainable analytics setup for Dynamics 365 Business Central using a clear two-layer approach: a data preparation layer (pipelines, cleansing, standardization) and a reporting & analysis layer (insights and storytelling in Power BI).
We’ll explain why Microsoft Fabric is our default choice for the data layer – especially when you move beyond a single source into multi-source analytics – then demonstrate how Power BI turns curated data into decision-ready dashboards. We’ll also highlight how AI features can support both layers: improving how data is prepared for analytics and making it easier for users to explore insights through natural interaction.

Takeaways

  • Treat analytics as a system, not a report. Reliable outcomes come from separating data preparation from visualization.
  • Fabric enables end-to-end workflows in one platform, covering ingestion, transformation, and serving data for reporting.
  • Data pipelines are where consistency is won – integration, cleansing, and standard definitions make KPIs trustworthy.
  • Power BI + AI reduces time-to-insight, helping users analyze, build, and ask better business questions on top of governed data.
  • You can accelerate adoption with packaged solutions like Power BI apps and template apps distributed via AppSource.

Functionality

Regulatory-driven functionality updates, including CBAM, ESG, and EPR requirements

ESG, CBAM, and EPR are showing up in more and more conversations with Business Central customers – yet they’re often hard to translate into concrete, day-to-day system processes. This session is a practical, story-driven walkthrough of how a consultant turns “What do we need to report and how?” into actionable requirements, system design choices, and a realistic implementation plan.
We’ll show how these topics are supported across the Microsoft ecosystem—starting with sustainability and ESG capabilities in Business Central, moving into CBAM/EPR calculations enabled through excise-tax mechanisms, and then looking at what EPR typically means in practice and how organizations can address it using available solutions (including options in Marketplace/AppSource) and Microsoft’s planned direction.

Takeaways

  • Regulations become operational only when mapped to data and processes – the biggest challenge is turning “compliance” into repeatable system routines and ownership.
  • Business Central is expanding ESG support to help organizations collect and report sustainability data and align with external ESG expectations.
  • CBAM (and related producer responsibility reporting) can be supported through structured calculations and logs – giving finance and compliance teams something reportable and auditable.

Functionality

Extending Business Central for advanced production: APM, Yaveon, VASS & new Quality Management module

Standard manufacturing in Business Central covers a lot – production orders, routings, consumption/output posting, and traceability – but advanced production scenarios (for example food, cosmetics, or continuous/process-driven operations) often require more: stricter quality gates, deeper batch/lot control, and industry-specific ways of planning and documenting work.

In this practical, project-focused session, we’ll show how we extend Business Central with specialized apps – APM, Yaveon, VASS – and the new Quality Management module to meet advanced production requirements. We’ll start with a quick overview of each tool’s role, then map real implementation needs (quality checks, recipes/formulas, batch tracking, and production planning) to the right capabilitie. Finally, we’ll walk through real-life delivery scenarios – illustrated with screenshots – showing how Business Central’s extensibility model makes it possible to build a fit-for-purpose manufacturing solution without breaking the core system.

Takeaways

  • Quality becomes a first-class workflow with the Quality Management module embedded into production scenarios.
  • Traceability is non-negotiable in regulated industries – lot/serial tracing supports faster root-cause analysis and recalls.
  • Apps are the strategic way to close gaps: Business Central is designed to be extended with apps from Microsoft partners.
  • Successful projects start from requirements, not tools – choose apps by the process outcomes you need (compliance, repeatability, planning accuracy, and shop-floor transparency).
